EPlan is dedicated to the academic and developmental excellence of each and every student in the U.S. In 2019, we helped to transform a set of legacy institutional software into one integrated modern app, in order to provide public school districts with much-needed new technology and data-driven tools to help plan, track, and adapt to each student’s specific needs and goals.
Brand Persona Development
Building Blocks
In order to develop an appropriate brand language, we looked to the classroom for inspiration, and interrogated the question: How do we learn?
And the answer that we landed upon was this: Knowledge is essentially comprised of a set of conceptual structures — one built atop the next to form increasingly complex units of information. Just as a child playing with wooden building blocks learns the importance of creating a solid foundation on which to stack ever higher and more complex constructions, we also understand that a strong body of knowledge depends upon the foundational integrity of the underlying parts…this is the essence of education…of building a mind.
We used this metaphor to develop a logo and visual language of building blocks, grids and pixels; and extended this elementary concept by using the three primary colors: red, yellow and blue — as a jumping-off point for a striking color palette.

The App
Next we designed and prototyped the core app features for both desktop and mobile experiences. Though functionality and clear presentation of student metrics was of highest priority, we also strove to infuse the app with delight and human-ness whenever possible, through fluid workflows and tasteful use of the bright, welcoming color palette.
The result is a system of digital components that provides the tools to develop a variety of digital experiences for teachers, administrators, students and parents.
